Sober curious is a term that means questioning your relationship with alcohol and thinking about trying sobriety, even if you’re not ready to commit to it. A growing group of individuals in America has opted to drink less or not at all as a lifestyle choice. For many folks, dry January has become dry 2023.
At the beginning of COVID, people were joking about the garbage pickups and the excessive number of empty bottles of wine and alcohol. This cutting down may be the result of a massive increase during COVID. Unfortunately, our society seems comfortable with referencing alcohol as a coping skill. People joke about it when they say this is “mommy juice,” not wine. What are the kids thinking when they hear this?
Sober curious has become popular amongst younger people, and it’s become a trendy thing to explore abstaining, and is a positive thing to have people begin to become mindful of their consumption. Our major concern is that it when someone has a substance use disorder this can be a very damaging approach.
